My thesis is on assortment optimisation, or how to help supermarkets choose which products to sell in which shops. I'm working on developing a learning model for customer preferences. The aim is to highlight clusters of customers with the same preferences, as well as signals of complementarity and cannibalisation between products. This will enable us to recommend an optimal set of products to place in shop, taking into account the various logistical constraints involved.
